A Love Untrue
living in lust
before an orgy of violence,
sex and drugs: the heroin(e) addict
… the one who claims: we’re “one and the same.”
adhering to the standard:
contemplating death as she sobs and wilts beneath his grasp.
they say it’s love (with paper on their tongues):
minds melted in candy-colored psychedelic swirls.
beaten but burning brightly, she bears the bruises:
the scars on her wrist – we know he’s untrue;
know this will kill her too. so right now,
darling Adamant – I can’t stand with you.
I too longed for the return
of the bright-eyed rock star
with dreams larger than life
and know that walking away
causes (seemingly) unduly strife
but I must not see you like this
and I will not subject myself to this:
that life would kill me too.
About A Love Untrue
We are all slaves to our vices. When I was younger, I self-harmed. Now, and for many years, I have struggled with what I believe is an undiagnosed binge eating disorder. However, I’ve always been straight edge.
My abstinence from drugs and alcohol has rendered me somewhat of an outcast among certain friends and family members. A Love Untrue is about a man who attempted to pressure me into the destructive lifestyle he was living.
It’s also about his girlfriend, whose friendship I valued until the end, but whose attachment to aspects of their lifestyle (and defense of his actions even when seeking help), ended our relationship. Vices can consume you, and if you let them, they will change you as a person.
